Another book report

Post by lustyslogger »

I have just begun reading "The Riddle of the Sands". I am only about 25 pages deep into it (the print in my copy is exceedingly small, I almost need a microscope to see it!) I will give my impressions of the book when I am done. So far I find the main character to be a bit of a pompous ass but he may get better as the book goes on.

So far, although written in 1903 the discussions and descriptions of the boat (small according to the main character at 30 feet) would be right at home in SCA.

I'll keep you posted.

By the way, its for sale at SCA! The book that is, not the boat!

I have finally finished the book. It was one of the better books I have read in a while. I will write up a full report tonight and post it tomorrow.

I have a non boating question. How is it possible to have 100 cable TV channels and still not be able to find anything worthwhile watching?

this is exactly why i no longer have cable ... shut that service off almost three years ago and enjoy saving the $50/month.

last week i was traveling, picking up more boat trailers, and in one motel i couldn't find one thing worth watching. turned off TV and read a book.

$50.00 a month, man, that's half my dock fees!! I could live without TV but then I would have to talk to my wife more! (just joking, I know she is looking over my shoulder right now)

Well, if it weren't for Law and Order I wouldn't watch anything!

I have been a book reader since I was in the fourth grade. (They hadn't developed any numbers higher than 4 that was so long ago!). My problem is I usually have two or three books and several magazines all going at the same time depending on what room I am in when I get the urge to read! (Obviously the magazines are in the little house behind the house - sorry about that Josh!)

Yeah, watching shows is such a time suck. Most of the time, for me, it ends with the thought that that was an hour of my life I won't get back.

I just finished reading _The Curve of Time_ by M. Wylie Blanchet about she and her five kids cruising in British Columbia each summer back in the 40's I think. A nice blend of boating, adventures, first peoples and family. Review of the audiobook here: http://saltwaterpeoplehistoricalsociety ... -time.html

Before that I read _The Unlikely Voyage of Jack de Crow_ about a gentleman taking a Mirror dinghy from England to the Black Sea. I haven't chuckled that much through a boating book in a long time.

Now I'm reading _Debt: The first 5000 years_ by David Graeber. Totally different topic, but fascinating.

What are people reading? I'm always looking to add to the "To Read" pile.

Hi there. Reading for many a skill that is not worth the time. Such a loss for our society.

Just finished "Passage to JUENAU : A sea and its meanings" by Jonathan Raban. Started out as an intro to the sailing experience of the Inland Passage but became so much more. I shared my interest at sailing through the passage to Alaska with my cousin. He went to his book shelf and produced this text. I have a great cousin.

books are my true love - have over 900. usually have at least 6 going at once in addition to magazines and newspapers.
