Info wanted
Just saw a Venture 17 on Craigslist for $600.00 with a trailer. According to the listing the boat is in good shape but needs some clean up (we all know where that can take us).
My question is does anyone here have any experience with this boat? I have not heard a lot of good things about the entire Venture line but here we have a boat that is over 43 years old that is according to the photos still in reasonably good shape.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Check out the Trailer Sailor Forum.

They have a MacGregor/Venture sub forum. The West Wight Potter Forum on Trailer Sailor is very friendly & helpful. Best of luck!

Thank you very much. This will be very helpful. Here is the ad for the boat. I can't tell if the blotches on the hull are just a poor paint job or something else. Its a nice looking boat.

neat looking little boat.. but I have bought enough questionable cars over the years to think there is a lot being unsaid about that CL ad. If you are close by though, might be worth a look

SCA Magazine reviewed the 17ft Venture in their issue 54 in 2008.

Hard to tell about a particular boat but I don't think that these Ventures were bad boats. They have the look of a good sailer. If the hull is sound and the keel cable or whatever the system is in good order it should be OK.

You could also take a look at the Siren 17. A very good little cruiser in his own right.

This is a Siren 17 at my marina. Its a boating looking boat, that's for sure. Only thing is they typically sell for 5 or 6 times what this one is going for.Michel wrote:Hard to tell about a particular boat but I don't think that these Ventures were bad boats. By the way Michel, I have finally learned how to use my video camera and get results back. They still look like really really bad home movies but I will keep practicing and hopefully by the fall, with all the leaves in full color around the lake, I can post some videos. No music however unless you want me to hum something!!

O K, living in East Tennessee, 50 miles from Knoxville you have your choice of Rocky Top, The Tennessee Waltz, or On Top of Old Smoky. I will start practicing tonight with the Tennessee Waltz .Michel wrote:Great Lusty! Humming is great too!
