OK, This thread has drifted far enough from the topic that I need to add something really random: On the Columbia River at Cascade Locks and Hood River, the wind really howls in the summer. Back in the mid '50s, one of those towns formed a "Yacht Club", and to join, one had to have a boat that was at least 36" long and could stay afloat for 60 "consecutive" seconds. Times sure have changed!

Mike Moore #170, hoping never to need the word "consecutive" when describing the seaworthyness of my scamp.

Sounds like my kind of "yacht" club.

Anyway, not being of the mold of Howard Rice I have decided to give the Reef Maker a shot. We shall see what we shall see.

By the way Mike, we are allowed to wander in the wintertime. Not having a boat in the water causes us to lose focus and think of all sorts of things. Who knows, someone may even think about a way of putting a steam engine on a sailboat

OK, I ordered the Reef Maker and it arrived yesterday. It does look like it will perform as advertised. For those of you who said it would be just as easy to simply rig a line through the reef points you are of course correct. However, I personally have never been able to effectively reef my main except on my Lugar Leeward 16 which had roller reefing for the main sail. I either can't find the reef lines or the "Jiffy Reefing" system on my Sunbird has too much line and gets in my way. This system looks like something I can just attach and leave on the sail until I need them. It will be April before I am back in the water to know just how well it does work. However, it appears simple enough to do the job.

Also, as an aside my wife gave me a helmet camera for Christmas. If I can figure out how to use it I am sure National Geographic will come calling!! I can tell you all right now I will never produce films the quality of Michels.
