A line knotted at the ends through the reef grommet always there to tie with a simple reef knot, that comes out easily seems a whole lot easier to me.

I have a feeling that this device is not held in very high regard with small boat people. Oh well, to each his own I guess.

I also visit a forum for Sunbird 16 boats. A new sailor once asked the question of what kind of motor would be the best motor, electric trolling motor or small outboard. The vast majority of the responses addressed the actual question. However, there are always those who have somewhat differing ideas of the question. One such response was why would you even have a motor, after all it was a SAIL boat wasn't it?

So, there you have it.

There should be no dogmas with small sailboats. It is more fun when we can do as we feel and try things for the fun of it. There are never any real consequences if we make a mistake. Gadjets can work beautifully sometimes and if it makes for a nicer day whay not?
I went as far as sailing without a boom last year and it was working very well even if it is a quasi-heresy for some!
Wer are a free specie compared to the big boats people.

But alas there are those who believe "This is how it must be or you are not a member of our group". I rode motorcycles for years. There were those who if you did or did not ride a particular brand of motorcycle you were not really a motorcyclist. To me, if it was on two wheels with a motor then it was a motorcycle and you were a motorcyclist. I believe the same with boats. If it floats its a boat (unless of course its a bar of Ivory Soap, that's a different story!).

I watched a Mythbusters program where they floated a sunken boat with ping pong balls (They also made a sailboat out of duct tape) so who knows what you can do with Ivory soap!!!
