Thanks for the story. There is a Hinterhoeller 25 for sale at an extremely good price at my marina. Every time I get a bad case of (in my case 9 foot itis) I run across a story like this and it reminds me how lucky I am to have my little pocket cruiser/daysailer. I was able to get out on my boat more than twice as much as anyone else this past season. I may not go far but I do all right for an old guy. I can rig the boat for an overnight stay since it has a cuddy and I have equipment left over from my back packing days so I can rig a bed and a cook stove.

Thanks for the article. Now, I have to go sand and varnish the Lusty Slogger.

In my case its a two part answer. (1) I can sail this one by myself, I am aware of most of its foibles. Its relatively inexpensive to maintain. and (2) My wife won't let me buy another one!!!!!!!

In all seriousness, although there are many times I would like a larger boat I never lust for one that is a "yacht". Some of my favorite boats are the Compac 16, The Cape Dory Typhoon and the Victoria 18. The Hinterhoeller I mentioned is up for sale for $1500.00 and all it needs besides some TLC is a head sail ($650.00 used). However, as I said in my first post whenever I get that "more water line" urge I read some thing like the blog and realize that there is nothing I would want to do with a larger boat that I could not do with my Sunbird. Any boat that I could afford at this point would come with a laundry list of repairs, some apparent, some not. Since I have the Lusty Slogger 95% perfect it just doesn't make sense to incur those potential cost for just another 2 feet of water line.

I see that you are into small fixed keel mini-cruisers. These are all good and trouble free boats. What do you think about the keel-centerboard type, like the Montgomery 15 ?...

M15 is one of the best boats available, currently, in the 15' size. comfortable cockpit, comfortable and long v-berth (for laying down, no sitting headroom ... almost if you are sitting on the head), sails great and easy to rig. the M15 is expensive on the used market. a Jerry Montgomery built model (the 'youngest' would be a '94 or '95, oldest are from the early 80s) sell close to the $5000 mark.
