Abbott Banshee

Post by gchaban »

Hello all from Meaford, Ontario. I regularly sail my Edel 665 on beautiful Georgian Bay and we've been cursed with stupid weather -- warm to cold every other day.

My request to all of you is about the Abbott Banshee. I've got my eyes on one for my son -- he's 11 and been sailing Picos and other bits of plastic. He loves it and I'd like a little something smaller for he and my wife to go out and play on.

All I know is that it's a 1971 and here's a link ..

Anyone have any experience/advice for me before I go take a look?

Cheers,

Here is a craigs list listing for the same

without trailer. Having just bought a boat about, some advice (that you probably know already).

1) see if it and the trailer is registered, I know this has nothing to do if it sails or not, but if you have to weight the trailer and do some research, it might be a good bargaining chip.

2) check the things you don't think about when buying: do the lights work on the trailer. Look at the tiller/rudder, keel and sails.... when you are looking at the boat you tend to look at the main part, but not the parts that move you. I would think you should be more concern with a damaged tiller, than a scratched up hull.

Looks great for someone who already has experience

good news is there is a race class (http://groups.csail.mit.edu/mac/users/b ... nshee.html) means there are others who have the boat and, more importantly, advice. If there is a sail club around that uses the boat in its fleet, so much the better
