A new column maybe?

Post by Michel »

Hi Eds!
There is something I would like to see in your magazine. A column or serie of articles about the live-aboard aspects on a small boat. I would like to read about devoted cruisers tricks and stories related to them. The experience of sleeping, eating, washing, pulling up the pants... ETC... I am looking for the human experience and not how to build a galley! This is already well covered.
How a big man (or lady) does fit and live in a small cabin? How about two persons?...
You know what I mean! ;)
Maybe the readers could share about their exploits, I don't know! ;)

Hey Michel, don't know if I'd do it for along time ,but there was a guy living aboard his Sandpiper 565 at Riverside marina in Windsor, On. all summer long while I was aboard my C&C Wave 26 doing the same; he had TV and everything! Matt Layden and friends do it for months in the Bahamas on micro-cruisers. Guess it's a matter of priorities. Check out the pics of Gary and Cindy on Little Cruiser's site; makes me green with envy every time I'm out shovelling snow!

That guy is remarkable! He is the living proof that small boat cruising is more than fantasy.
I know about Matt Layden and the Bolduc. They are a great inspiration to all small craft sailors

Someday, I might go for a month long cruise on the Saint-Lawrence. Why not?... 8-) ;)

Good thoughts. I am planning to address this topic in the "Out There" column or pen an article on the topic with experience observations from small boat sailors. Columns have a word count restriction aimed at keeping them one page in length. This can make it tough to do an in depth look at a topic like this one that deserves a deeper look.

Thanks Howard,
After all, this is what we do and should do with our small sailboats. The whole idea that was created by John MacGregor and so well put back to life by our renaissance man Larry Brown deserves to be better documented (IHMO)
Day sailing is great but what about our cruises and camping experiences in our boats? How do we manage with what we have now?... Why do we love it so much? ;)
We love things that big boats people hate! Why is it that way?... :?:
