As I said I am reading SCA's "Small Boats - Big Adventures". One of the stories is about Hugo Vihlen who sailed a 5' 4" "boat" across the Atlantic. I have decided I will put an end to this sailing ever smaller boats by sailing across on "no boat" . You cannot ever go smaller than nothing so I will never need to worry about having my record broken.

I have thought long and hard (at least two bottles of scotch long at any rate) and decided the way to do it is to simply afix floating fenders (the white kind from Walmart) to your hands, feet and the back of your head. You then use the suction cup from a "plumbers friend" to make a tabernacle that you stick on your chest. You mount a small mast to that and run up a sprit sail. You control the sail by tying the end of the sail to your big toe, either foot. Then you can tack by simply crossing your legs and moving the end of the sail from one side to the other. You can reef the sail by merely bending your knee and thereby shorten sail.

I will admit there are some logistic issues to work out, where to stow food and water for example but I am sure this can be solved.

Maybe Josh will write an article about it after I complete the journey.

Excellent fantasy you weave Lusty!

Not sure how I missed this before, but there's one certifiable hee-haw !
I'm all into Howard Rice's upcoming Patagonian Scamp expedition now, but your yarning makes his envelope-exploding plans seem a little ho-hum by comparison, I mean who can top a hulless boat for pure and elemental minimalist adventure?

The provisioning thing is no problem either, just take a page from Howard's book and have an organic sprout garden in the shirt pocket of your drysuit, next to the solar desalination still..

..Making sure to leave allowance for a daily tot of grog, you do have a third bottle, right?

And by all means give Josh an exclusive on your no-ship log, zero is such an ultimate reality, compared to even 11' 11"...
