Gel-Coat Repair

Post by climber »

Need some hints here. I have been repairing dings in the gel-coat on my BayRaider. I've sanded the repairs with up to 2000 sandpaper and they are smooth but not polished.

Should I use a rubbing compound as the last step? After that is there a sealer I should apply or just wax it over?

Any advice would be appreciated.

no need to 'seal' the repair. once you get it to shine to your preference use wax for marine applications that has good UV protection. i wax my boat twice a year - beginning of season and end of season. i do touch up as necessary for scuffs and bumps during the year.
