Rudder uphaul

Howdy

We need to rig an uphaul line for our O'Day Daysailer, any suggestions on line and hardware placement on the rudder and tiller?

Kent,

I have no experience with that boat but looking at the pics on-line I don't think you could go very wrong with a little thimble fairlead at the top aft corner of the rudder head and then a jam cleat at a convenient place on the tiller. I can't tell if the top of the rudder goes into the rudder head when fully up. I'd put it in that position before you figure out where to attach the line.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking along the same lines as you and ordered a clamcleat with integrated fairlead for the tiller. The rudder does not go up into the cheek. So far I am thinking about attaching the line about 2/3 down the trailing edge of the blade, that seems to be the best compromise on force needed to pull the blade up vs having a bunch of line down in the water.

One line attachment method recommended was to drill about a 1/2 inch hole through the rudder, fill the hole with GFlex, then drill a 3/8 inch hole though that for the line to go through. I thought about an eyestrap on one side of the rudder but wonder if that would cause the rudder to pull that way and possibly bind a bit.
