A beautiful day to sail.

Post by Michel »

I simply love it when it is like that!
The power boats with their fumes and noise are not there. The wind is just right and I dont get a sunburn!... ;)

Anyone have any special plans for Labor Day? My club always has an "End of Summer Beach Party" this week end. There is an island about 6 miles on the rhumb line from the marina and they sail out there, raft up and have a cook out. Until now I have not gone because of how long it would have taken me to get there in the Lusty Slogger. Now with the larger boat I should be able to make it in 3 hours or so (It may only be 6 miles on a direct course but its more like 10 as the wind tacks). I will try to get photos and post them. I am not a good photographer but I will do my best.

I still have at least one month and a half to sail as often as possible before I pull Mari-Bell out of the water. September is often the best time of the year for sailing.

I am looking forward to se your images. :)

Here are a couple of recent clips. ;)

Very nice videos!

No plans for our Labor Day weekend other that we definately plan to get out.

September is ideal as the temperature & humidity come down some. October is also a great time to sail hereabouts - the trees turn and the wind is usually obliging.

Thanks!... :)
I always enjoy September conditions and plan to sail somewhere in October. You are right but there is a certain melancholy to it because it represents the end for a northern sailor!

As for the labor day weekend, I prefer to stay at home and not to sail! It is usually a jungle in my St-Lawrence region for this occasion. To many motor cruisers and cigarette boats with their noise and exaust fumes. :(

You sound like L Francis Herreshoff in his book "The Compleat Cruiser". He didn't take kindly to those "chrome plated monstrosities" either.
