Hello. I just joined. I am 52, sail Laser with my 15 year old daughter who has just aged out of Optimist. We sail on the St. John River system and the Bay of Fundy, when not away at regattas. I just got back from trailering an Yngling (like a soling but smaller). Hoping she will learn to love sailing itself through lots of venture sailing with her friends in the Yngling, when not away at weekend regattas. It weighs 1400 pounds and I was able to trailer it ok with a Toyota corolla, slowing down on hills.

Not planning on changing too much at first, but I want to do some long cruising, even beyond the Bay of Fundy. Like the soling the Yngling handles high winds very well, but I am not so sure about waves over 15 feet if it ever comes to that. Planning on an electric trolling motor, 2 deep cycle batteries, solar panel, LED running lights. Hoping to get a lot of great ideas from pocket cruiser and micro-cruiser sailors, as she is not much bigger on the inside than a Paradox. This isn't our exact boat, but it is an Yngling, and the photo you lot are perhaps most interested in for ideas.

had to read up on the Yngling.. looks like a cool little boat.. and with it's positive floatation, deep keel, and fast draining cockpit, looks like a very seaworthy, fast, and fun boat.

when you consider it weighs as much as the ballast of my Sea Sprite does, and with the spin has more sail area on a more slippery hull shape.. I bet she flies!

Welcome to the forum. Would love to see pictures of the boat. I sail a Sunbird 16. Originally made by AMF its a sixteen foot daysailer. I sail on Cherokee Lake in Jefferson City Tennessee. I belong to the Cherokee Lake sailing club and our newsletter is The Light and Variable, which gives you an indication of the prevailing wind conditions. I have named my boat "The Lusty Slogger", which is actually a Cricket term but I thought it sounded cool. I took my very first sail on November 22, 1963 on the St Johns River in Palatka Florida. I remember the day well because of its historical significance.

Take a look at some of Michel's videos. They are what gets me through the winter!!

I love Carl Alberg's designs, especially the smaller ones like the Sea Sprite, and also the later ones like the Pearson Triton where his designs evolved into fin keels and spade rudders, but always low to the water and seaworthy. I always wanted to try a Cape Dory Typhoon, which is rather like a 19 foot Sea Sprite. There is a Hereshoff 20 or 22 down here I looked at, before opting for the lighter and easy to trailer Yngling. I think it is a Hereshoff Fish, but not sure. Heavy. Full keel. Nice transom, swept aft, with rudder off the transom.

I love the look of the Lusty Slogger. On the day I was born he put away the golf clubs and bought a Tricorn. We also had a Peregrine at one time. Here is the Tricorn and Peregrine. Both were 1960s 16 foot cruising dinghies with a small cuddy forward.
I will try to dig up some actual family photos of these...

Aw man, you just did it again. Every time I get twofootitis someone comes along and tells me what a nice looking boat the Lusty Slogger is. How can I trade her off after that???

Thanks for the kind words about the boat. A few other "improvements" I have made is a John Owens (J O Woodworks) hatch cover and tiller, a jib bag and tiller cover also from J O Woodworks and a sunbrella tarp that covers it like a tent. John is an advertiser in SCA and I recommend him without hesitation.
