Well, I have finally made it to the Annapolis Boat Show. It was a hoot, even with the rain. First of all there were boats there that you needed a reservation and special glasses just be be able to gaze upon!! You know, those with price tags like "Starting at $490,000.00. There was a catamaran that was larger than the destroyer I served on in the Navy. Just the thing for us small boat sailors!! There were a lot of boats that I had read about but had never seen and this was a great opportunity to do so. There were Cape Cod Herreshoff 12 1/2's (starting at a mere $45,000.00) Plus other offerings from Cape Cod Shipbuilding. There were Fatty Knees, Compac 16's, Compac Catboats, a bunch of other traditional looking boats in both wood and fiberglass. There was a Pearson 21 that was a nice boat and not a bad price in today's new boat market. There were also sailing craft that looked more like the speeders in Star Wars than actual sailboats
Also included was a plethora of sailing accessories, mostly for those who cruise the blue waters in pirate ships or similar vessels. I did manager to purchase a Spyderco knife to add to my collection. Those are extremely sharp knives by the way.
The high point of the trip was when I met our very own Dave Scobie. He was manning the Sage booth when I came by and when I mentioned the name of my boat it was like two old buddies meeting after several years. A genuine nice guy. And speaking of the Sage 17, who knew Jerry Montgomery was actually Harry Potter. That is the only way he could have designed that boat with the same attributes as the tent Harry stayed in at the World Quidditch Match and be 10 times larger inside than out. For a boat that is only one foot longer than the Lusty Slogger it is certainly extremely roomy.
I looked for Josh Colvin but apparently he is still recovering from the Texas 200!!
All in all, if you haven't been I highly recommend it next year. I would make reservations for a hotel now if you want to get within 20 miles of Annapolis.
It really was fun.

I am heading there tomorrow (today?) after I take a small nap. (I hate working evenings sometimes)
