Sailing season is over

Post by Michel »

I had to take Mari-Bell out of the water a little sooner than usual this year. I had a nice season. :)

Here are the last images of this sailing season.

My sincerest condolences for your loss. Unless something strange happens I have at least another month. I tallied up my sails so far this year. I have been out 14 times. There is an 80% chance of rain this week end so I doubt that I will go out this week. Next week I am going to my son's wedding in New Hampshire so no sailing there, but then two or more week ends in October. The last race of the year is in Mid November but I think I am going to sit that one out on my boat at least.

Your videos are always always always well received by the captain and crew of the Lusty Slogger!

By the way, your video of dropping the mast, loading it on the trailer and bringing it home was one of the saddest moments I have ever witnessed! I can't play the music on the video so I don't know what you used but had you used Funeral March of the Marionettes (The old Alfred Hitchcox theme music) it would have been appropriate.

Its not you or the video. Its the fact I can't play the music in the office and I am on satellite at home so videos don't play at all there. The only time I can hear the music is on the week end or if everyone has left. Its a rule I created because I didn't want everyone playing music on their PC's in the office and I certainly can't break that rule for myself!

Not to worry Michel, I do listen to them when I can and I think your guitar work matches your sailing video skills. Twice I became so relaxed I fell asleep at the helm!!

Thank for your posting these.

Well, its a sad day here in East Tennessee. Today was the last day of sailing for The Lusty Slogger for this season. While I have not taken her out of the water yet I have taken everything off the boat (stove, life jackets, radio, hand bearing compass, wind and temperature indicator etc) and I have taken the sails down and taken the boom off the mast. Next weekend it comes out of the water.

I really shouldn't be too sad. I keep a log of every sail and I took her out 18 times this sailing season. Not bad when you realize I live 50 miles from the marina. 18 sails is also more than I had sailed totally since I bought the boat in 2009. I had not sailed in over 20 years and it took me a while to get back into feeling comfortable in a day sailor. I made several improvements that allows for easier single handling the boat. Also keep in mind I am 69 years old so moving around ain't what it used to be!!

Fortunately, I have Small Craft Advisor to look forward to and every time I am really down a new issue magically appears in my mailbox (thanks Josh!).

18 times? Well done.

We'll keep the magazines coming over the winter!

Best,
Josh
