Hi all,
I recently discovered the Small Craft Advisor, and saw it filled a needed niche for boaters who appreciate small (fun sized) boats, and provided a forum for the folks who enjoy them. I am obviously new to the forum, but have been using, building, restoring small boats mostly sail and paddle, for most of my 68 years. No, the first one I built didn't float. Yes, the last one did;)
At our dock here on Lake Texoma I keep a 1975 Heron 14 ft daysailer, a 19 ft console fishing boat I recently built, plus a 1975 Trojan to take the grandkids tubing. The kayak and canoe are close by.
Being retired, I do most boating stuff during the week so can pick the best weather. I'd be interested in hearing from others in the area who also enjoy sailing and kayaking.

Hi, we are the Red Scamp and we are boat builders up on Lake Eufaula in Eufaula, OK. We have a large boat building shop on our property and hold an annual Messabout called the Sail Oklahoma Boat Festival that has around a 100 small, mostly homebuilt boats and some commercial ones, that attends. This year it is Oct. 4-8, 2012, free to attend, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SailOklahoma/ for more information. You can e-mail us directly for more information too.
I have built everything from dinghies to a 37 foot schooner by Ted Brewer. Currently I am building a Welsford Sweet Pea and a Tender Behind, plus a Ross Lillistone Flint rowing boat.
There is also a great group that meets twice a year on Texoma called Boots which is also a Yahoo group, a lot of same people belong to both.

Thanks for the response. I had seen info about the Lake Eufaula Messabout, looks like an interesting variety of small craft. Don't think we'll be able to make it this year due to some temporary medical restrictions, but will definitely look for info on the Boots group to be sure and catch the event and see who from around here is active in it. Your boat building business sounds impressive, not expected around here.
Thanks,
Gary

Actually more of a hobby! Most of the boats I build are my own.
