Any interest in a Havasu Micro Cruiser Rally this February?

We've got a water depth/ramp issue looming that cinched it for taking the year off for the HPCC, however....micros are launchable anywhere, anytime. Are any of you guys interested in a fews days of Camp Cruising with beachable Micros? Overnight temps at night would be in high 40's to low 50's (probably). There is about 17 miles of water that will be navigable and should be good beaching at the boat-in only campgrounds due to the lower lake levels. If we got a group together and had some fun this Feb (2014), who knows ...maybe we could dovetail a Micro Cruiser Convention into the Pocket Cruiser Convention in 2015. Anyone interested? Let me know. I'd love to do some beach camping with some other micros and learn more about it from some pros!

:-)

Happy New Year Sean

Well I can't join you but hope you keep pushing the idea for Havasu or elsewhere. Great idea. I have found that small boat or as you refer to them Micro Cruiser sailors do like to get together/cruise together. I put a toe in the water last year by offering a Small Craft Skills Academy Cruise, it was a hit. This coming season I have scheduled several and so far so good.

Good to read your posts. Great to see you in a small boat (not that Dauntless isn't small).......now you need to figure a way to shrink your lanky frame;-)

Best,
howard

Happy New Year to you to Howard. ;-)

Hopefully we can eventually get some more organized gatherings specifically for the skinny water beach camping crowd going. I am also interested in some Engine-less adventures. We already held the first "Bosunator Challenge" which was approx a 50 mile round trip (including all the tacking back upwind) to the Bill Williams River (south of Parker Dam) and back, including circumnavigating the island and sailing the channel under the London Bridge at some time during your journey before the task could be called completed . Not a "race" but a challenge. Completing the task earned you a Bosun Paw decal which you will now see on the bow of Scout as well as the others that completed the challenge. If the paw is Green in color....the challenge was done using only human or wind power.

We had 10 boats do it on a full moon. It took me 20+ hours and we had everything from dead calm to 20+ knots along the way. The evening was an incredible full moon night with fantastic sailing until the breeze finally gave up around 1 am. That left me with 2 hours of paddling to complete the task. Here's a link to the blog on the challenge and a couple of videos made by Kiko and Nate who each did it on their respective boats. They both got a late start and met the main fleet midway down the course as the day grew long and nightime fell.

Hope to set this up and take another crack at it. It really was a great time and a good challenge for everyone! Love to see a Scamp join us next time! :-)
