Sail Oklahoma Boating Festival 2013

Post by Monies »

It's about time to start thinking of attending Sail Oklahoma 2013 which takes place October 10-14 this year. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SailOklahoma/ and click on the button for all the details.

New this year for 2013 is a sailing class being taught by Dave Gentry which will be from Oct. 9-11 and includes on the water classes and classroom instruction. Dave will be using The Red Scamp for his teaching boat but students are asked to bring boats if possible. Details are over on our website too.

We will have our usual four days of sailing, free classes, races and frivolity. Kelly McGuire of Redfish Island Records fame will do a concert for us again this year, all sailing music! Captain Ledge's band will open for Kelly's concert.

This entire circus takes place in Mike and Jackie Monie's backyard and on the private beach for their lakeside subdivision. Jim Michalak and Dave Gentry are returning as guest designers for 2013. Chuck Leinweber of Duckworks will be teaching a birdsmouth mast. Dave Gentry will teach skin on frame and water safety, Jim Michalak will teach how to design your own boat

We hope everyone can make it here for 2013 to join us.

Found a few (Ha!) more photos of the sorts of boats that come each year. Home built, professionally built, production boats, power boats, multi-hulls, monohulls, kayaks, canoes, everything is welcome and does come.

Updates on Sail Oklahoma. Just heard from Graham Byrnes of B and B Yachts who is planning on returning this year if all goes well. Graham is the designer of Core Sound boats, as well as other award winning small craft.

Also heard from David Nichols and Howard Rice who will be here also if things come together for them. David Nichols is a well known authority on small boat sails and designer of the popular Lutra Laker boats.

Hope we will see some of you here this year!

There is still time to come to Sail Oklahoma 2013, which officially begins this Thursday Oct. 10 thru Oct. 14. There will probably be more than Mike's Red Scamp here for the Scampers but it is a chance to see many different and often unusual boats.

Builders are generous and take people out to try out boats, so you can see them close up but usually get to sail or go out in them.

This is a fun event, very casual and laid back. A chance to get together with a lot of knowledgeable people who love to share their passion for small boats.

Hope you can join us!

Will try and post some photos so you guys can drool over beautiful boats. Yahoo is not cooperating again this morning!

We had between 50-60 boats here and about 150 people. While attendance was down, we still had spectacular boats. Standouts were a Coresound 17 brought from Texas, a Welsford Navigator brought from Texas, a Welsford Treadlightly brought from Kansas, a B and B Spindrift brought from North Carolina, a Welsford Walkabout brought from Texas and going to Georgia.

A knockout Peephen from Colorado, a Melonseed from Texas. a Bolger Micro from Oklahoma, an Ooze Gooze from here in Oklahoma, a Sabre from here in Oklahoma.

I know I am forgetting some and will try and post photos again here of some of the unique and beautiful boats.

Love, Jackie and Mike Monies- http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SailOklahoma/
