Big "Quietwater Symposium": small boats in Mich. this Sat.!

Post by JeffOYB »

The QWS is Michigan's only non-motorized outdoor recreation show. 1000 people, 100 booths. A dozen main events/presentations.

It's located at MSU in E. Lansing (the south campus major Pavilion).

It's unique in several ways: it's the only university-sponsored outdoor show; the only volunteer-run outdoor show; and it's a trade-show that puts the emphasis on education and hobbyists.

They take their land-grant roots seriously with this show. It's part of Natural Resources and Ag Week.

Dozens of the booths are free for hobbyists showing off their small boat projects. There's also a lot of canoeing and kayaking -- with plenty of skinboat buffs and restorers. Ron Sell with his fancy sailing canoes are there -- designed in league with Hugh Horton, as I recall. But it's by no means all boating and water -- it's long been expanded to include all the wholesome outdoor fun.

I'll have my table there for my Out Your Backdoor indie outdoor culture/adventure project.
