Sail Oklahoma! Invitation

Post by Monies »

Mike and I would like to invite any of SCA's readers to come join us over Columbus Day Weekend, October 6 through 10 for Sail Oklahoma! This is a free event we host at our home and lake on Lake Eufaula, OK. You can go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SailOklahoma/ and go to the Data Base to pre-register.

This year we will host designers John Welsford of NZ (designer of the Scamp) and Jim Michalak, small boat designers. Jim Michalak is returning after coming last year, we are excited to have him and John Welsford to meet here! They will discuss boats, judge boats, sail in PuddleDuck Races and go cruising with us.

This is a casual and laid back event, extremely family oriented and child and dog friendly. Two children and a sailing dog are on our boat judging committee, along with JohnW, JimM and Chuck Leinweber of Duckworks.

This is a great mix of production boats, home builts, monohulls, multihulls, kayaks and canoes that comes. Boats range in size from 7 feet to thirty plus feet that come. We have Welsford boats, Michalak boats, Bolgers, B and B, Sea Pearls, Michael Storer boats, traditional boats, non-traditional boats. The sailors are as diverse as the boats.

Everything centers around Mike's Boat Palace and it becomes Messabout Central. We launch down the street at our neighborhood beach with free launching and parking. Camping is in our backyard or at the Corps of Engineers park down the road, motels are available too.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner comes with the sailing. Mike and John Welsford are going to team up to cook breakfasts daily I think this year (John offered to wash dishes but I know he is a great cook).

We hope that as many Welsford boats as possible will come, along with any other trailerable boats and sailors. This promises to be a great year and we want to share with others our passion.

Both Scamps should be available here for trying out along with a variety of other boats whose owners can give rides or have crew seats available.

Latest bulletin on Sail Oklahoma- we now have three guest designers, John Welsford of New Zealand, Jim Michalak and Graham Byrnes.

Jim Michalak is a designer of easy to build small boats, plywood and quick construction methods and is based out of Illinois.

John Welsford, designer of the Scamp, Navigator, Pathfinder and dozens of other small boat designs is probably the most popular and most built designer in the world.

Graham Byrnes of B and B yachts/boats is designer of the popular Core Sound series, CS 15, CS 17, CS 20, as well as the Princess 22, EC 22 and a lot of wonderful power boats that Mike is drooling to build. His design, the CS 20 won this year's Everglades Challenge in monohulls. I believe all his designs except the Princess 22 have won the Everglades Challenge in monohulls in various years.

We hope that any builders/owners of Welsford, Michalak or B and B boats will bring them to Sail Oklahoma! These designers are donating a lot of their time and money to make this trip and I want lots of their boats here.

Of course, you don't HAVE to bring a boat, you can just come to meet everyone, see the boats, have fun and eat! People did last year and had a grand time, coming back, like Jim Michalak.
