Just watched a youtube video from a Brit who bought a boat in 2012 from a Massachusetts owner on ebay, then started to sail down through the "Inland Coastal route" to Florida. Got to Northern New York when Sandy turned too come ashore. Found shelter form the storm before continuing south.

My wonders started queries, What are the experiences on the canals and rivers that make up the route south along the Atlantic coast?

Anyone of you Atlantic Pocket Yacht owners have experience in this area?

I live down by Atlantic City. I do not know how shoaled up the area is since Sandy (I bought my boat right before that storm came through) but I do know it is near impossible to get behind Atlantic City if you have any sort of "Real" mast height.

The Atlantic City Expressway bridge has a fixed span height of 30feet. The mast on my Sea Sprite 23 is 25 feet.. so combined with deck height, I am very close to being unable to get under that bridge in a 23 foot boat..

Thanks for the info. Knowing the Inland passage limits would influence the type and size of boat. That is one reason I found the video interesting. It sound like the route has a number of depth issues. Complicate it with bridges and a sea going passage making yacht may want to rethink the route.

It is what makes small craft boats appealing. Go just about any where.

I would stay outside for most of NJ. there are a number of good inlets you could duck into for a good nights rest (manisquan, Absecon (atlantic City), and Cold spring (cape may) that are just far enough apart to make it a pleasant sail
