I've got two of his books and really enjoy them.
He now has a third book coming out.
Great reading that might appeal to you too.

I have put Simple Sailing in capital letters. This is to give it some importance. A title, if you like. Sailing is becoming a sport riddled with unnecessary complexity. This complexity is commercially driven. We are under severe marketing pressure to buy more and more gadgets, to buy ever bigger and more sophisticated yachts. The more we succumb to these pressures, the happier and more profitable the ‘marine industry’ becomes.

yes, Roger Taylor books and www-site are good reading!
you can purchase Rodger's books from SCA -
http://smallcraftadvisor.com/store/home.php?cat=3 (search for 'Taylor')
there is also the first part of a multiple issue interview with Roger in SCA #75 (May/Jun 2012).

Yep, I'm a huge TJ fan. Even after learning that there was much fiction
in his work. "Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story", as they say.
If you like TJ this book just makes him more human;
Wayward Sailor : In Search of the Real Tristan Jones

the fact that my father and i would read his books and become more excited to create our own sailing adventures means that TJ's 'white lies' did some good.
his stories in a small way has lead to me being part of the 'boating industry'.

I thought you might be familiar with it after I read your bio and links.
Pretty impressive life you got there, and a very nice boat too.
BTW, I just had an (small) issue with my Spyderco knife and they did a
great job taking care of me even though they had no obligation to do so.

then i realized im hooked .....gotta learn how to sail.
build. Buy.steal a wooden boat like ...gerrys " yankee girl" .....or something of that order.
then i thought ...i'm a 6'2" 300 pound truck driver ...with zero knowledge of boats....

Howdy Peabody.
Boating instruction isn't hard to find, and if you have no experience, highly recommended!
He is some more interesting reading (free too);
Three Years in a 12-foot Boat
