I have put Simple Sailing in capital letters. This is to give it some importance. A title, if you like. Sailing is becoming a sport riddled with unnecessary complexity. This complexity is commercially driven. We are under severe marketing pressure to buy more and more gadgets, to buy ever bigger and more sophisticated yachts. The more we succumb to these pressures, the happier and more profitable the ‘marine industry’ becomes.
at the moment i'm re-reading my Tristan Jones collection. over the past two months read: ICE, THE INCREDIBLE VOYAGE, SAGA OF A WAYWARD SAILOR, YARNS, OUTWARD LEG, THE IMPROBABLE VOYAGE, and 3/4th way through SEAGULLS IN MY SOUP.
i also read SAILING AMONG THE STARS: the story of sea dart by Laurel Wagers

Yep, I'm a huge TJ fan. Even after learning that there was much fiction
in his work. "Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story", as they say.

the fact that my father and i would read his books and become more excited to create our own sailing adventures means that TJ's 'white lies' did some good.
his stories in a small way has lead to me being part of the 'boating industry'.

yes, an excellent book. read it a few years ago (don't have in my personal library ... something i do need to collect for the bookshelf).
I just finished reading " alone against the atlantic "
Then i find the "scamp" blog by a girl named julie.
then i realized im hooked .....gotta learn how to sail.
build. Buy.steal a wooden boat like ...gerrys " yankee girl" .....or something of that order.
then i thought ...i'm a 6'2" 300 pound truck driver ...with zero knowledge of boats....
in fact? Im one notch below zero. Maybe two?
So i know this is crazy thinking ....but im dreaming of somehow sail down the Mississippi and see my buddys in Louisiana ....
gotta do something like this .....its on my bucket list...waayyy high on the list.
