Boat Naming: Hailing Port for Trailerable Boat?

Post by Shipshape »

I'm about to take delivery on a small, trailerable sailboat and have developed the name/graphic. Because it will reside at my house (and I'm likely to move in near future, anyhow), I wasn't planning to put a hailing/home port beneath its name and graphic. But is that a boating faux pas? I've read that many boaters put a hailing port on it, even if it's some landlocked location. Curious to know views from others who have trailerable, named boats.

For a trailerable it really doesn't matter as you can launch from any port. If your boat is documented it matters. You really don't need a hailing port for "the little guys". We've floated sailboats from 34 ft/9 tonnes documented to 11 ft Sunfish and only the three documented vessels (34,31 & 27 ft - none trailerable) did we add a location to on the transom.
