Using the West System scarfing jig

I have a West System scarfing jig installed on a circular saw. It advertised that it will cut a 8 to 1 scarfing into 1/4 inch plywood. I'm worried that the scarfing won't be wide enough and weaken the plywood extension. Does anyone have any experience with using this jig and can you offer advice?
