Got a boat for Christmas!

Post by Art Haberland »

abet, it's very small!

I will admit I did ask for it, I intend to increase the sheer, change the cockpit seating, centreboard trunk, and the stays to make it into a model of my GP14.

just for fun, I might see if I can RC it and mount one of my GoPros to it.

Anybody else get something fun for christmas?

Good for you Art. Is that a Lightning. Used to sail those at summer camp. Don't recall them having an up and down centerboard with a bulb. Might be a newer model or something different.

If I recall, the Lightning have a pivoting centreboard and it is ballasted. (maybe around 100 pds?)
That is a big dingny at 19 feet!...Or is it a keelboat in disguise? ;)

My wife gave me one of those leather driving hats that sports car drivers wore. I immediately ran out to my drive way looking for the Austin Healey 3000, but alas, just the Hyundai was out there!

She also gave me a small telescope that I could mount my cell phone on to take photos. Its not much bigger than one tube from a binocular but it does have a tripod so I can hold it steady. I was also looking that the attachment to mount the cell phone. I think I can adapt it to the eyepieces of my refractor telescope (one of my other hobbies is astronomy, I currently have a 95mm refractor and I have been offered a 10 Inch Dobsonian at a good price. That one is large enough to see the gondola's in the canals on Mars!!)

They are somewhat narrow so you would have to do a lot of tacking

I had a 10 inch Orion Dobsonian when I lived in Tennessee with super dark skies. It really was very good. I was able to see the Triangulum in the Orion Nebula, and the Cassini Division in Saturn easily. I gave it away like a fool. Anyway this is the one I am going to get
