The wake on that container ship is amazing. I have run into higher wakes from bass boats!!! I have had some that I had to turn head on into the wake or risk a capsize. The wake from that ship was like it wasn't even moving.

They are not going very fast in that region yet but I prefer ship wakes over those produced by some types of cabin cruisers anytimes!...Ships produces longer wakes that are easy to climb!... I only saw a few that were producing breaking waves and that was farther away from Montreal, where they can speed up and the bottom rises up fast.

those big ships are scary in how fast something that big can "Sneak up" on you. They really do not seem that fast till they are passing

You are right! That is why I take great care in not being in their way! I know about the channel they have to navigate and stay out of it, unless I cross it at 90%. I never linger in their channel. But some do and we can hear the five horn signal from time to time! There is lots of room to sail outside of the seaway anyway! That seaway is well marked too.
I once made a joke to a passenger friend! I told him I was going to play chicken with a cargo ship that was coming our way. I sailed head on toward the ship and when it was looking like we were going to collide , the ship turned! The joke was that I was aware of where the ship had to turn and my friend wasn't! I won the chicken game! ;)
