Anchor Lights

Post by climber »

I am looking for a small, battery powered anchor light for a small sailboat. I don't want to wire my boat for 12v power. I have D-cell powered running lights that I recharge with a small solar charger. They run down after a while but I can usually keep them charged for a week before I need to find a plug in.

Anyone have any idea or recommendations?

on my M15 i used the white all-around product below -

http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... ctId=34596

i created a tie-line to hold the light and ran it up my forestay using the jib halyard about 1/2-way. be sure to have a downhaul line attached so you can get the light down in the morning.

worked great. still have the light on my M17 as a backup if my masthead light goes out.

One of our contributing writers has had good luck with this light: http://www.harborfreight.com/all-purpos ... 94740.html

There's a short article on it in our next issue. —Eds

wdscobie,

Thanks for the hint. However, the link to the WestMarine site doesn't work - at least on my system. There are a million lights in that catalog. Can you be a little more specific so I can find it?

Thanks

the product is - AQUA-SIGNAL Series 23 LED Portable Lights

the general phrase i used in WM search engine is 'battery all around light'.

Heard of the use of two solar "garden" lights positioned one above the other so only the top one iluminated at first, shining onto the other, hence the second/lower light would come on only when the first had run out of juice lasting all night. Haven't tried it myself but I've seen the lights in the "dollar" store selling for a song; might be worth a try.
