For me, it could be a dream come true!... It would be so incredible if we could have a model of this hand operated motor made to fit a small sailboat as auxiliary propulsion. Adios gas, batteries! Welcome freedom!

I currently use a 55kw electric motor. The disadvantages of the motor is the battery weighs 50 or 60 lbs which upsets the balance of the boat, secondly it has a limited "fuel" supply and if I am out in the middle of the lake and the wind dies I can't always get back in on the charge left in the battery. I don't know if I would want this as my only source of power but it seems light enough to use as a back up when the battery does go dead on me.

That's the idea! A good backup system! Oars take lots of room in a small boat with a cabin. (Not a problem in an open boat) and this thing seems to be working very well and looks to be a quality product.
Now if they could manufacture a model that would fit a small sailboat, with a longer shaft and bigger transom bracket....

Interesting, but there are these things called oars and paddles that use larger muscle groups for better efficiency and are easier to install.

I agree about oars and paddles but I like the idea of a motor without a motor a lot. These things could be made to be very efficient in times.
Gears could be added to make the propeller go faster and easier. They could be made very strong in order to be useful anywhere.
The method used to operate it could be different. There are no limits to imagination and creativity.

One thing about it you would never run out of fuel. You may get tired and need to rest for a bit but soon you could be back to cranking away and moving forward. You cannot do that with any current powered device.
