For an entire week the weather report for Saturday was mid 80's, 20% chance of rain and winds between 8 and 10 kts. When I got to the marina the temps were mid 80's, very little cloud cover and 20 to 25 kt winds!! My rule is if you can hear the halyards slapping against the mast its Miller Time!!. Well, not only were the halyards slapping they were playing Barnacle Bill the Sailor alternating with Asleep in the Deep. There were five members at the dock and one went out only to return about 20 minutes later all white knuckled.

So, I decided it would be a good day for maintenance. I recently purchased a Tiller Clutch from JO Woodwork's and finally got around to installing it. It took longer to read the instructions than it did to actually install the device! I also had to repair the electrical control panel, such as it is. Last time I went out I accidentally broke off a plug, like a cigarette lighter plug in. I use it for my fan, charging the vhf radio etc. It was held on by two tabs on either end. I guess after 40 plus years it had grown somewhat brittle since all I did was try to insert the plug in for the fan (I use on that normally would be used on tractor trailer rigs for the driver. They are much cheaper than those found at West Marine. Anyway, the tabs snapped off. I tried super gluing them but that didn't work. Gorilla glue advertises it will hold anything. I don't know about anything but I do know it will hold the plug ins!!

I also did a few other odds and ends. I had been threatened with fines and worse because of the ugly cotter pins that held the front hatch cover on the hinges. So, not wanting to annoy the Commodore any longer I replaced them with stainless steel (two of the four were actually nails bent to serve as a cotter pin!).

Everything else seemed to be ship shape and Annapolis fashion (everything does not have to be Bristol fashion you know).

Hopefully next week end's winds will not be a test of my sea faring skills!

My boat is still in my driveway! I am waiting for the St-Lawrence level to go down a bit. It is still to high at the ramp because I would have to back up until the water reach my minivan's doors before the boat could float off the trailer!... So I'm waiting!

By the way, Key Largo has its own problems. Not ice floes but hurricanes, cock roaches the size of small terns, sand fleas, heat and humidity. But the water is nice

as somebody who prefers heat and humidity to freezing... sounds like paradise
