Thank you. I will look into what sort of plastic might weather the nautical environment.
It is coaming after all. The SCA article had it wrong.

How will being in plastic bag make it easier to replace?Peter E wrote:On the subject of foam. Whether or not pieces or poured It is a good idea to have it contained in plastic. Foam will absorb moisture at some point being in a plastic bag sealed will help in replacing it and keep it dry longer.
<snip>,
I can see how having it sealed would protect it from moisture, wonder if there is a way to keep a boat away from water??
Looking at FwS's pictures, I a m not sure how he would put the foam in a plastic bag though

Re: Positive Floatation?
I do see how bagging/wrapping the foam in plastics would be an advantage for removal. That stuff is a challenge to cut precisely and is sort of crumbly on the jagged cut sides. Bagging it would contain all the little floaty bits. I intend to pull it all back out to clean and prime and paint. I'll wrap it before I stuff it all back in and secure it.
I'm going to do the water absorption tests on the three kinds of floatation I have. I'll report if anyone is interested.
BTW: I'm a she, not a he. I've decided to just ignore the old adage that it's unlucky to have women aboard. I try to make up for any affront to the Gods with more Rum offerings.

Welcome aboard. I wonder if those who believe having a woman on board is bad luck will also get a tattoo of a pig and a chicken on their ankles (it was believed that pigs and chickens couldn't drown so if you had a tattoo of them you wouldn't either). I have a pig and a chicken decal on my PFD however!!

Enough empty bottles can make an effective flotation device!!
