There are three issues with an electric motor (I use a trolling motor and it works well). The battery, if you use a regular deep cycle battery, weighs a ton and changes the trim of the boat. The battery takes up a lot of room in a small boat and finally, as I have proven at least twice, they run out of electricity at inopportune times! I suppose you can carry two batteries (I actually use a lawn mower battery, about a third of the weight) as a back up.

I was looking at one of those Toqueedo motors but they are almost $2,000.00 vs $200.00 for a top quality Minnekota trolling motor.

I need to learn how to row row row my boat!!!

Well, late fall has finally come to Florida. The high today will only be in the mid 60's. Man, if I go sailing today I might have to wear my Good Old Boat wool jacket!!!

Rejoice. Here in Canada, the temp is minus 21 Celsius, with the windchill, a record for this period. We had 15 cm of snow dumped on us in the last couple of days. Sailing will have to wait for late May or June of next year.

Rowing is a very good exercice if your oars are long enough for the task. The other thing is to mind about where there is the less adverse current and make good use of all the good one! ;)

One other nice thing about sailing without a motor is that we have to really get better at making good progress with the faintest of zephir! :)

BTW, I stay inside because I don't want my brain to freeze!!! ;)

Too late for me for the brain freeze!!! That happened to me when I lived in the mountains of Tennessee and the temps hit in the zero Fahrenheit range. I didn't go sailing but I did need to go outside for various reasons (going to work for one!!)
