Here you go, Decks are secured to the hull permanently, shaped and sanded to fit, and just awaiting varnish. Spark herself just awaits paint on the sides of the hull, varnish on her decks, all her brightwork reattached, and a shiny new bronze mainsheet horse to match that which she originally came with in 1964.











All of the above should happen this week. Hopefully I can get a couple of sails in before loading her up for St. Michaels

Sorry to post twice in a day, but something shiny came my way. Spark, being built in 1964 originally came with a Bronze Mainsheet horse. Sometime in her racing career she was changed over to the more typical full width traveler. Modern versions dispensed with that and went with a rope bridle.

Thanks to JM Reineck and Son, I have a brand new, shiny bronze mainsheet horse to install.

I think I have turned a big corner. Spark now sports a shiny coat of paint!





She needs a rub down with a very find grit sandpaper and a second coat, but at least she is all one colour now!

Spark has a nice coat of varnish on her decks now. Still needs three more coats and another coat of paint before I attach her rub rails and splashboard

There is nothing that compares to a well found boat Art. (Well maybe Sophia Loren in her hey day!). That is absolutely beautiful.

Today I got her rub rails on, cut the holes in the deck for the oarlocks and mainsheet horse, put the pintles back on, and the drainage holes in the transom, and completely forgot to take pictures.

No worries though, I have this to show you. A little something I knocked out from some mahogany scraps I had laying about, an angled mount for my compass. Soon as the third (or fourth) coat of varnish dries, I can mount the compass in it.




And this is the compass, a Silva P70, nice little fixed mount compass.



I was originally going to mount it permanently up by the mast, I even got as far as rebuilding the trim to accommodate it, and decided not to. Instead it is going to be mounted to a movable navigation "table" that I can strap to the thwart to hold the compass, charts, and stuff.

A year ago I posted this picture of Spark in all her "unearthed" glory. Her only changes from when I pulled her from that barn was a wash and rigging repairs..



Today, I recreated the picture.. the day is later, so the sun is going down, but you get the idea.
