Sailing at last!

Post by Michel »

It was about time!
I decided to try my boat in the boomless mode! (Not the first time I am an heretic!)
I rigged my second jib in place of the main! Well...It worked very well! No loss in pointing, maybe a bit slower when the wind becomes very light but it handles the gusts like they were nothing. It accelerates without any heeling. It feels very safe and it is really confortable without the boom.
Here is a short video of my sail. :) https://youtu.be/qHCvtT-RqYo

Hi Jacques! I just love to make things as simple as possible! No more boomwang is a big thing for me because it takes a lot of cockpitt space on a dinghy like mine. No boom feels like freedoom to me! I also love the shape of a boomless sail!... You should try it on your Sandpiper. It works just fine. I did it on mine years ago!

Looks like fun but as I have slides on my main, I prefer having a boom on which to lay the sail getting in and out of the marina without having to remove the main. Easier and faster for me from the cockpit.

It is fun and it is different! And some people will look at you like if you were crazy or something!
Just give it a try for the fun of it! ;)

After a few tries!... That configuration is best when the wind is 15kt and over! It is OK at around 10kt but if it is lower, I really need more surface, so I can beat the current. It could be different on a lake with no current though. ;)
So, I think I will use that thing only in strong winds, because it is so easy and confortable. :)
