Installing a bimini

Post by smccall »

Has anyone have any advice on installing a bimini on a Sirius 21? There is a back stay and the main sheet attached to the transom. I would like to have some shade when siting at the tiller for a long time.

The backstay isn't so much a problem, but the mainsheet would sweep right through the bimini area, so I can't see a bimini working unless you mounted the main on a traveler above your head. And THAT would be a ridiculous expenditure.

The size (and layout) boat you have and the layout lends itself more to a dodger. If yours is a pop-top(? not sure if it was standard) that might make it difficult, but otherwise, it'd be a fairly standard upgrade. Then you just need an autopilot, and presto, you are in the shade, drinking a cold one, and enjoying the view.

Yes we have a pop top but we don't sail with it up. When you put it up you have to take down the boom vang because the pop top swings up against the mast.
