Cleaning Wax off of Topsides

Post by zilbub »

I just bought a Victoria 18. The previous owner had covered the boat with a wax impregnated, canvas cover. Last summer when the temps were in the 100s for a couple of months, the wax melted off of the canvas and is now stuck to the gelcoat on the topsides.

What would be the best way to remove the wax without damaging the gelcoat?

I am really guessing here so check this idea out with others but I think you might have some success with a heat gun (hairdryer maybe) to soften the wax and acetone to remove it. I wouldn't use the heat source and acetone too close together.
Currently "owned" by a boat :-(
