has the Scamp been assigned a Portsmouth handicap rating?

Post by lhav »

I have a chance to race my newly completed Scamp #560 in a mixed club regatta soon. The event is run on Portsmouth handicap. Any idea how the Scamp should be rated?

Although SCAMP is an official U.S. Sailing Class, I'm not aware of SCAMP having an assigned handicap number.

In some previous race events I know organizers have worked with waterline length/ Sail area/Displ or used numbers from other popular small cruisers like West Wight Potters. SCAMP is tricky since it has a short waterline length but, especially in light air, it will sail circles around a lot of heavier trailersailers.
The smaller the boat the bigger the adventure.

I recommend asking the rating question on the active SCAMP Facebook group page -
