Hi all, does the 420lbs listed on the description includes the water ballast.
How light can a wooden scamp be built?

Re: Is 420lbs dry weight?
The 420# (approximate dry weight) includes the standing rig not the appropriate 175 additional pounds when the water ballast tank is filled.

Thanks, I was hoping that wasn't the case, as I don't drive I have to move my boats by hand so keeping weight down is important.
I'm guessing from your use of the word "Appropriate" that asking about ways to get the weight down is going to rock the boat here?

Seems that autocorrect changed my typing! Dry weight is approximate. I've corrected my post.
Boats end up being slightly different in their weights as each builder makes customizations in addition to variations in wood density, amount of fiberglass and resin used etc.
The fiberglass SCAMPs are more consistent in weight (excluding owner customizations).

I always turn auto correct off, I don't need any help to make mistakes

If you are looking for a super light boat, there used to be a company called Aerolite that designed a Skin on Frame boat. I believe the covering material was something like the polyester cloth used for light aircraft. I thought they also had couple of sailboat plans.
