Apologies if this has been discussed, but my board searches didn’t turn up anything:
I’m close to putting in the cabin sides for build 584, Ursa Major. Reading ahead in the manual I see instructions for vertical cleats “aft of B2 and forward of B3 and B4. “
Seems a little overkill to me- e.g. there are no vertical cleats along the hull planks and those see more structural stress.
Aesthetically I prefer fillets to cleats, and with the nail gun it would be a hell of a lot more expedient to glue, nail & fillet (per hull planks) than mill & bevel in those cleats, then epoxy all those angles and corners.
Is there a specific structural reason for the addition of those vertical cleats? Has anyone done the cabin sides with fillets and realized it was a mistake?
Purpose of vertical cabin cleats?

Re: Purpose of vertical cabin cleats?
Fillets are fine in these locations.
