Greetings to Scamp enthusiasts in New Zealand

Post by CantabRob »

I live in Taupo NZ and am getting ready to build a Scamp.
I would like to get in contact with other NZ Scamp enthusiasts, whether they be ‘dreamers’, owners, builders or owner/builders, to discuss issues such as;
- Your current status (got plans, in construction, sailor0
- Kit or custom build
- Source of mast/spar material
- Sail making options
- Hatch(s) choices
- Hardware sources
- etc
I am posting this on multiple sites to increase potential coverage and apologise if you see this more than once. I am happy to get feedback via messenger, replies to this post, or email to cantab.rob@outlook.com

Hi Rob

I’m a Torbay sailing club member in Auckland.
I have just started construction on plan #590.
So far bulkheads and longitudinal’s are cut and have a coat of epoxy.
I gave myself a head start by drawing these parts and having them cnc cut locally.
Having a set of bulkheads is great motivation!
The longer panels I plan to scarf first and then cut them by hand as needed.
Materials:
Anzor fasteners for all things stainless.
Adhesive technologies for west system epoxy.
Sopac Marine have NZ made hatches which seem robust.
BBS Timbers have yellow cedar and other exotics as well as marine ply.
I would also like to hear from others in NZ.
Anyone else out there?
I’ll send you an email with my contact details.

Hi, Did you go ahead with your build? I am over in Manunui and at the stage of looking at designs to build for a trailerable boat for Lake Taupo, currently we just have canoes which we usually launch sonewhere along the Kuratau side of the lake.
SCAMP seems to fit the ticket for size on the water and weight for towing over the hill.
