Scamp International Registry

Post by Editors »

Ahoy Scampers! As you've probably noticed, we've been awfully slow updating the Scamp International Registry. Fortunately our friend Dave Scobie has kindly offered to curate the registry going forward. Let Dave know if your sail number needs to be moved, changed from an anchor to a sailboat (launched) and if you'd like your e-mail contact included in the listing. Dave even said he'll add a photo of your boat if you want to send him one with the sail number. Please keep files under 1MB. Thanks Dave!

The smaller the boat the bigger the adventure.

Question: Does the Registry appear on the website? I can't seem to find it.

Thanks,
Rob Hazard (Scamp#197, Puffin)

Every couple of months. I have terrible Internet and using the site is sometimes impossible. Joys of living on a boat in a rural area - at times speed drops early 90s dial-up, if working at all, and the modern graphical interface scripts www fails miserably in these conditions.

Is there something of great concern needing fixed?

No, nothing urgent just curious. Thanks.

Does anyone have totals of how many boats have been completed and how many are still in progress?

The Registry appears to have 3 different symbols.

I believe the Anchor indicates a purchase of plans or a kit w/plans. I believe these are the "in Progress" boats of which you speak. Purchasing a kit is a significant investment and to me would represent a greater probability of construction. But there is no differentiation between sale of a kit w/plans and just plans. The would likely be a big undertaking to determine.

The small sailboat indicates a finished boat, built from plans or kit. The small sailboat in a circle indicates a fiberglass boat built by Gig Harbor Boat works.

I purchased Plans #337 and then a couple years later purchased the materials, somewhat locally, to build the boat. Took me a couple months of head scratching to figure things out, then another week or so to cut out most of the parts. I don't have ready access to my build location, it's about a 20 minute drive. So far I am about to glue down the forward 3 bulkheads, then I need to work on the transom.

Sorry for the long winded response.

Now that the year is coming to an end I curious to see an update as to how many boats are complete. Have not seen an update to the registry in 2020.

"Have not seen an update to the registry in 2020."

I've done a couple ... all before June '20. The challenge is I'm now in a location where Internet is so unstable the Google maps interface fails. See example of my connection speeds and stability here -

I expect to be at a non-rural location in a few weeks, COVID permitting, and plan to update the list.
