Unofficial support network?

I'm departing Seattle for Ketchikan on or about May 10 in a wooden gaffer (built in PT at the boat school!) I am hopeful that I'll see some of the race participants along the way.

I understand the rule of not taking advantage of external support, but it has occurred to me that an informal network of northbound boats who are interested in the race and its objectives might be of help to participants who might get into difficulties that don't rise to pan pan levels.

Any suggestions from organizers or others?

Race Boss here.

Excellent question Stu!

Actually, it's an alright question...not quite excellent...but pretty good!

Read the rules! All support along the route must be available to all race teams; so unless you plan to camp out at Seymour Narrows giving out the same amount of Mars Bars(the CA ones are delicious!) to each team, you should think about doing something else. Like...becoming part of the loose knit cruising pack that is heading north at the same time as the race!

That's right. Some boats are heading north about then and I'm going to put together a packet of racer info, so if anyone sees one of the racers they can contact the RaceBoss Team and give us a location and update. They can also pass along messages, etc. It's not totally thought out yet, but will be a way for boaters to contribute to the tracking and overall safety of the racers.

The slogan is...wait for it..."Don't help anyone. Help Everyone!" If you, Stu, or anyone with a boat going north is interested please contact me at: raceboss(at)racetoalaska(dot)com.
