...So exactly what does, as the R2AK website says, No Motor/No Engine mean for this race? Does it mean no motor/engine of any type by definition or does it mean no internal combustion motor/engine? The kind that uses gasoline, diesel, biofuel, Jet A! Definitions (Google 'em): Engine - a machine with moving parts that converts power into motion. That would include by definition paddles and oars. Motor - a machine that supplies motive power for a vehicle or for some other device with moving parts. That would include by definition pretty much any thing including a sail. So if you can row or pedal drive your way to Alaska, can you row/pedal (human power) to make electricity that you store in a battery that then when you need it drives say a trolling motor?? I'm thinking that in the spirit of this race it is an internal combustion engine and that anything wind or fueled by food that you eat and that then comes out as motive force through your muscles goes but just checking before the R&D guys get a little to creative with their Rube Goldberg solutions. After all Elon Musk might get a wild hare and want to slap down his entry fee.
