Re: Another Book Report #4

I don't think Wayfarer is any more seaworthy than John Welsford's Navigator, probably even less. Frank Dye didn't try any similar ocean voyages again, and actually didn't even sail back from Iceland. I think he just realized how lucky he was to survive. The Sea Takes No Prisoners is a good book.

Re: SCAMP Masthead Radar Reflector / Floatation

Here is a do-it-yourself masthead floatation solution: http://www.wayfarer-international.org/WIT/useful_skills_of_all_kinds/masthead.buoyancy/MastheadFloatation.pdf There have been few radar reflector tests which conclude that passive radar reflectors aren't that effective. Still, the octahedral one...

Re: Is there room for a Scamp in my life?

Great questions Ekorn, and it would be interesting to read more answers from those who have sailed Scamps. In case of small sailing crafts, their suitability for family sailing depends on the skipper, his family and the sailing environment. To me waves of 10-20 meters sound like a nightmare.

Re: Building of SCAMP #349 "Argo" underway in Wisconsin, USA

Machine translation doesn't master all languages that well, and Finnish is one of them. Google uses words "wood processing (industry)", "woodcutter", "patience on sand (like when standing or sunbathing on it)" and "epoxy fillets (in sense food)", and did some serious grammar errors (like "I have bee...

Congratulations for the launch, Jason! Argo looks such a cool boat and I like its minimalistic navigation light system. What was the most challenging construction phase?

Re: Hagoth has Launched

Congratulations for the launching, Brent! I like how the red sail, the rudder and the fenders chime with rest of the colours. Seems that Haggoth had less sanding and varnishing than Shackleton. :)

Hi Lindsay,

You can find the same picture here. The page says it's a yawl rigged Houdini. Beautiful boat.

Re: Building 417 from Plans

Interesting to see SCAMP being drawn and lofted from the plans, jhippe. If it feels difficult to find the center points, there exists an alternative method to draw the holes. Picture attached. The cardboard pattern is cut from a simple oat flakes box. The rest were drawn with computer.
